How they voted

The voter gets to rank the candidates, ranking as many as they like from 1 to 4. (1 being the highest and 4 being the lowest).  They do not have to rank all the candidates.

The total of 100 votes breaks down as follows:

  • Albert: 34 votes
  • Betty: 33 votes
  • Caitlyn: 32 votes
  • Daniel: 1 vote

Daniel is eliminated.  His second choice vote goes to Caitlyn.

  • Albert: 34 votes
  • Betty: 33 votes
  • Caitlyn: 32 + 1 votes

Cailtyn is eliminated.  Her second choice votes go to Daniel. The one third choice vote(originally from Daniel) goes to Betty.

  • Albert: 34 votes
  • Betty: 33 votes + 1 votes

Betty is eliminated.  Her second choice votes go to Daniel. The one fourth choice vote(originally from Daniel) goes to Albert.  Albert is elected.

  • Albert: 34 votes + 1 votes

Final Results

Albert is elected with 35% of the vote from the riding.

Note: 65% of the votes are wasted (not used in the final count). Some systems would require a runoff election between the top two candidates if this scenario occurred. Daniel  would not be on the ballots.
