Welcome

If you have ever voted in an election or hope to vote someday, then this site should be of interest to you. It  explains a system of voting that   fixes the existing First-Past-The-Post system of voting that is used in many countries and electoral districts in the world.

What It is!

  • Its New:

I will continue to claim that this is a new system until some can show me an existing system that uses only a first and second choice, and does not declare a winner before every candidate has had the opportunity to reach the majority.

  • Its Easy:

The voter makes a first and second choice on the ballot. If his first choice is not counted his second choice will be.  No votes are ever lost.

  • Its Fair:

The winning candidate will, in almost every case, be elected with support of the majority of voters in the electoral district.

Introduction

Keeping it simple is not stupid.

First-Past-The-Post(FPTP) has been much maligned in recent years, to the extent that three Canadian Provinces (PEI, Ontario and British Columbia) have gone to great lengths to try and replace it with something different. In each case the voters have rejected the change in favor of the existing  FPTP  system. Two points can be made from this:

  1. The interest in electoral reform is real and if it hasn't come to your area yet, it will.
  2. In every case the choice  is between the existing FPTP  system, and a completely different system.

What has not been looked at is fixing the existing FPTP system instead of replacing it. That is what this site is about.

Important Section For British Columbia, Canada

Electoral reform does not have to die with the defeat of STV.  Now is the time to look at a system which will retain the good points of the FPTP  system while eliminating the drawbacks to it.  The system is First-Past-The-Fixed-Post.
